H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat on 16 – 17 January 2020 in Nha Trang, Viet Nam. It was the first meeting under Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship with the theme “Cohesive and Responsive”. The Meeting discussed ASEAN’s priorities in 2020 as well as ways and means to strengthen ASEAN Community-building, enhance relations with external partners and promote ASEAN centrality in the regional architecture. The Foreign Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues to promote peace, security and stability in the region and beyond, based on international laws and principles. They also reaffirmed ASEAN’s strong commitment to regionalism and multilateralism.
The Meeting congratulated Thailand for the successful ASEAN Chairmanship of 2019, which has promoted sustainability in all dimensions in ASEAN. The Meeting also supported Viet Nam’s ASEAN Chairmanship theme of “Cohesive and Responsive”, and its expected deliverables, including the Mid-term Review of ASEAN Community Blueprint 2025 and strengthening the ARF through a new Plan of Action and a Guide to ARF Procedures.
