          On 13 December 2016, H.E. Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs in his capacity as Advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Hiroto Izumi, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, co-chaired the 2nd Meeting of the Thailand – Japan High Level Joint Commission (HLJC) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 
          On trade, the Thai side reaffirmed its request on increasing the import quota of Thai processed pork and ham products, and both sides agreed to pursue discussions on further trade liberalization under the Japan – Thailand Economic Partnership Agreement (JTEPA). On investment, the Thai side welcomes investment from Japan in Thailand’s 10 targeted industries under the First S-Curve and New S-Curve policies, as well as in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). On infrastructure development, both sides discussed progress regarding railway cooperation, traffic safety, flood management, satellite positioning technology, and the development of Thailand’s aerospace and power industries.
