On 19 December 2016, at the invitation of the Government of Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a briefing on the situation in Rakhine State by H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and engaged in an exchange of views on this issue with other Foreign Ministers from ASEAN Member States. During the discussions, Myanmar pointed out the complexity of the situation and informed of continuing efforts of its Government to address the issue with the important goal of peace and national reconciliation and asked for time, space, and understanding from the international community. On this matter, ASEAN Member States shared the view that this matter is an internal matter of Myanmar and expressed their willingness and readiness to give humanitarian assistance to Myanmar, and requested Myanmar to provide details regarding the channels for and specific areas of assistance.
