Thai Consul-General to Osaka visits Thai studies at the University of Osaka

          On 17 October 2019, Consul-General Krit Tankanarat visited Thai studies program of the School of Foreign Studies, University of Osaka (Minoh Campus), whereby he was greeted by professors of Thai studies led by Professor Dr. Marasri Miyamoto and was brought to observe the Thai language teaching class as well as the Thai studies room of the University. On that occasion, he expressed appreciation to the Thai and Japanese professors as well as the Japanese students for helping to promote Thailand and Thai language in Japan. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Osaka stands ready to support the Thai language section. In this regard, he offered Thai language and history books for the University’s future use.

          Thai language section of the University of Osaka was established in 1949. Currently               70 years old, it is 1 of the 3 universities in Japan which offers Thai language as a major, aside from the Tokyo University of Foreign Studies in Tokyo and Kanda University of International Studies               in Chiba Prefecture. Presently comprising of 76 students, the students will have the opportunity to be sent to Thailand for exchange program with Thai universities. Upon graduation, there is also the Hakuzo-Kai, the alumni association of the Thai language section of the University, which meets every year to establish network and update information on Thailand.
